Who Am I?
A reed player at heart, Alycia Baxter is a passionate musician who aspires to teach music. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Alycia started her musical career in grade 7, under the direction of Mary Blais, Brian Boggs, and Neil Bateman. By grade 8, she was doubling on Clarinet and Baritone Saxophone. She has recently completed a Bachelor of Music on Clarinet with Honours in Education, studying under Jana Starling and Marie Johnson. Alycia has been a member of various ensembles, such as the Community Band of Kanata, the Holy Trinity Rhythm and Blues Band, and both Western University’s Symphonic and Wind Ensemble. She was also a member of the Ottawa Junior Youth Orchestra in 2016. Alycia has had the opportunity to be the section leader for Western’s Symphonic Band Clarinet section and to conduct numerous clinics within London and Ottawa’s community. Alycia’s teaching career is starting to unfold as she recently completed her certification at the University of Ottawa. She has experience teaching privately as well as teaching in a classroom setting.
